Tokyo Junk Canvas No. 1

Tokyo Junk Canvas No. 1 is a warm, golden-yellow mixed-media canvas made with collected paper pieces, printed ephemera, and visual fragments from my trip to Japan.

This piece has a bright and playful feel, with layers of yellow, cream, soft orange, black, and little illustrated details scattered throughout the canvas. It reminds me of the cheerful visual noise of Japan, the packaging, signs, characters, patterns, and tiny paper details that catch your eye even when you’re just walking around.

Japan is full of visual surprises, from signage and packaging to printed paper, labels, illustrations, patterns, and everyday details that somehow feel beautiful even in their randomness. I originally collected these pieces for junk journaling, but instead of keeping everything tucked away inside a notebook, I wanted to turn them into something that could be displayed and enjoyed every day.

From a distance, it feels like a small pop of warmth for a quiet wall. Up close, it becomes a tiny world of layered textures, torn edges, printed details, and memories from Japan.
