Handmade Vintage Japanese Map B6 Journal

Only 4 pieces available, each one handmade from real vintage Japanese maps found in old secondhand bookshops in Tokyo, Japan.

These journals started as a personal project. I made one for my own Tokyo travel journal using vintage map paper I brought home from Japan, and after sharing it on my socials, a few people asked if I would ever make more. I had only a small number of maps left, so I decided to give the remaining papers a new life through this tiny batch of handmade journals.

Each journal is B6 size, approx. 125 × 176 mm, and handstitched with brown Japanese thread. Inside, you’ll find 44 pages made from real vintage Japanese map paper. Because the original maps were printed on one side, the pages have a beautiful mix of printed map details and blank spaces. Some pages are filled with roads, markings, and little map illustrations, while others feel quieter and more open for writing, sketching, collecting ephemera, or keeping memories.

I love that these old maps once helped people find their way around a place. Now, instead of sitting forgotten on a dusty shelf, they can hold new stories, travel notes, sketches, pressed flowers, ticket stubs, or everyday thoughts.

Each journal is completely unique, with its own cover design and inside page arrangement. The paper also carries a subtle vintage paper scent, which adds to the charm and character of using real old maps.

Use it as a travel journal, sketchbook, mini junk journal, memory keeper, or simply a special little notebook to keep close.

Because these journals are handmade from real vintage maps, each one naturally carries signs of age such as slight yellowing, folds, marks, texture, and a faint vintage paper scent.

Please do not expect a flawless, mass-produced notebook. Each journal is a handcrafted piece of history, with little imperfections that are part of its story and character.
