Similar to the previous tutorial, creating a hex tile art is also composed of several layers of effects and design clipping masked to the base layer.

1. Border Brushes

This set includes 7 pairs of vertical and horizontal border brushes. Just pick a border design then add your vertical and horizontal borders. 

Tip: When using the border brushes, add them in separate layers so you can move them easily.

Hex-Tile Lettering Guide:

Adding lettering to your tile art is a clever way to design your tile art and it allows you to personalize your work.

This brush pack comes with a Hex Tile Alphabet Guide that shows how to draw letters on a hexagonal tile grid.

You can color-drop the tiles to create the letters, but here’s a faster way to do it:

STEP 1

Follow the steps of the first tutorial and create a base layer, highlight layer, shadow layer, random shade layer (optional), and texture layer (optional).

STEP 2

Select the base layer and activate Reference.

STEP 3

Create a new layer for the lettering and set up the tapping technique.

Using the Selection Tool, select Automatic, and turn on Color Fill. Tap on any tile and, without lifting the apple pencil, slide it to the right to increase the Threshold all the way up just to the point before you color the entire canvas (~99%).

STEP 4

Build your letters by tapping on the tiles you want to color.

Note: Avoid changing the Threshold when coloring the other tiles, you might have to set up the tapping technique again when the tolerance has been changed.

STEP 5

Center your lettering to the nearest tile.

STEP 6

Add your decoration and background pattern.
